Smothered by the smouldering decay of yesterday
Gagging at its stench

Forced to wade through this haze again
Leaving tracks in the mud that I’m sinking in
That tell of my torture

Muscles clamp over bones that quiver with fret
Hope torn from my eyes
I taste the sick in my mouth
Scrambled images form stories in my head
Sand gritted teeth grind
And salt sticks at skin and melts with the grime from the poison within

Crawling through the slick
Wearing dread as a cloak
Cursed to carry this burden
The weight of which I can’t hold

The struggle consumes me
